About NSW ITAB

The NSW Industry Training Advisory Body (ITAB) role for metal and engineering; process manufacturing; and textiles, clothing and footwear now resides with Manufacturing Skills Australia (MSA). The ITAB role is to provide advice about industry training needs and related issues to the NSW Department of Industry – Training Services NSW (TSN).

Purpose

The purpose of Manufacturing Skills Australia NSW ITAB includes the following key objectives:

  1. Industry Engagement and Advisory Role:
    • Engage extensively with industry to provide the department with advice and feedback that is specific, timely, comprehensive, and relevant to the allocated training packages and industry sector demands.
    • Identify industry skills needs, sector priorities, and skill development issues for funded training in New South Wales.
    • Communicate training available under Smart and Skilled to industry.
  2. Collaboration with Government and Industry:
    • Advise and assist the Department on apprenticeship and traineeship arrangements in New South Wales, including school-based arrangements and establishing Vocational Training Orders (VTOs).
    • Collaborate with Commonwealth Jobs and Skills Councils to ensure that NSW skills and industry priorities are strongly represented at both state and federal levels.
  3. Training Package Support:
    • Provide advice on the development, review, and implementation of training packages relevant to the industry.
    • Facilitate connections between Training Services NSW and industry partners and employers.
  4. Specific Training Focus Areas:
    • Address issues related to the TAE (Training and Education) and FSK (Foundation Skills) training packages that impact the delivery of other training packages and their accessibility.
 

MSA NSW ITAB aims to act as a bridge between industry needs and training services, ensuring that workforce development aligns with both current and future industry demands.

The NSW ITAB covers qualifications, training pathways and other NSW training issues in the following industry sectors:

  • metal, engineering and boating
  • aerospace
  • process manufacturing, including chemicals, hydrocarbons, mineral products, plastics and rubber
  • laboratory operations
  • recreational vehicles
  • textiles, clothing and footwear
  • competitive systems and practices
  • environmental monitoring and sustainable operations.
